D5010 Committee Chair Reports Sept 2024

Lori Draper D5010 Membership Chair

Lori will be presenting as a part of our Zoom educational series and she is excited to share her message. Her presentation will be recorded and available to use as a club presentation (if your speaker cancels or you need to fill a slot). She reports that we have new members in many of our clubs with five prospects coming from the Rotary International Candidate Leads. Lori will be presenting to the AGs and club presidents on the new online “Membership Action Plan” area that gives each club information on how to grow their club, goal setting and the statistics on their progress.

Jess Gutzwiler D5010 DISC Chair

Jess is leading a new area for D5010-District International Service Chair (DISC). This has been a part of the Rotary Foundation for a few years, but D5010 is just getting started with this. We are grateful she is taking this on and learning more about the role. We will learn more about this from her in coming months.

PDG Diane Fejes D5010 Endowment/Major Gifts Subcommittee Chair

Diane is working hard on behalf of our district to educate and advocate on the areas of giving to the Rotary Foundation through endowments and other major gifts. She is also stepping up to help other districts with this education and advocacy at the Zone level. She will be reaching out the AGs and club presidents answering questions and sharing information this year.

Cathleen Lewis D5010 District Grants Coordinator

Cathleen let us know that Rotary International is late with awarding this year’s block grants to all Rotary districts. It’s not just Alaska that hasn’t received the awarded funding. She is very impressed by the number of clubs that are working together in the coming year, to do very important and impressive projects. Currently, she is working with clubs to close last year’s grants and hopes this will be a smooth process.

PDG Ted Trueblood D5010 Foundation Paul Harris Society Coordinator, District COL Rep.

Ted let us know that we have 79 members of the Paul Harris Society but have 150 eligible. He hopes to reach out to those eligible to increase our numbers in the PH Society. Currently, Rotary has 33,214 Paul Harris Society members worldwide. As for the Council on Legislation (COL), he will be sharing the 44 proposed changes so that our members can review and make comments. Ted represents our one vote on these proposed changes when the council meets next April.

Kim Erickson D5010 Foundation Polio Plus Committee Chair

Kim reminds us that World Polio Day is October 24th. If anyone would like to join the Polio Plus Society (pledging to give $100 a year) they will get a great D5010 long sleeve shirt and Polio Plus pin. Please reach out to her for the sign-up sheet. kim.erickson@greatlandlaser.com

Bernie Griffard D5010 District Learning Facilitators

Bernie reviewed the online Zoom courses that the district will be offering this year. A flier has already gone out on the dates and times of these presentations. We will introduce our “Rotary 101” which is a bundle of courses from the Learning Center that would help our members learn2 more about Rotary and grow as Rotarians. There will be great incentives to be a part of our Rotary 101 learning program.

Tam Agosti-Gisler D5010 Interact Chair

Tam is working on a current list of Interact Clubs that are active or have been active in the past. Many clubs did not realize that they have to register their Interact clubs annually, so she will assist clubs in doing that as well. She is very encouraged to see the number of interested Rotary clubs and schools that would like to have Interact clubs in their communities.

Alysha Childs D5010 Youth Exchange Chair

Alysha is new to her role but very excited to get the ball rolling in recruitment. This is the time of year that the outbound students need to be identified and interviewed. Youth Exchange has had a very positive response from using their short form and then move into the more in-depth interview process. There are two students that are late in coming to Alaska for YE this year but will be going to the Juneau and Petersburg areas when they arrive.

Beth Trowbridge D5010 RYLA Chair

RYLA is taking place in Ketchikan this year from March 27th through the 30th. Our facilitator will be Timi and the planning is underway for this event. Clubs should be looking for a sophomore or junior in high school who can attend and learn amazing leadership skills.

Denny Dewitt D5010 District Conference Chair

Planning is well under-way for the 2025 District Conference in Juneau, May 1st through the 4th. They are dividing up the responsibilities among the four clubs in Juneau and working hard to make sure this will be a fun yet informational event. Thursday will be the assembly followed by a whale watching and light house adventure out on the ocean. Rotarians can register now for this event.

Cindy Wright D5010 Rotary International Conference Chair

Cindy will continue to share information from the International Conference taking place in Calgary, June 21st-25th. Just following the conference is the Calgary Stampede Rodeo! She is hoping to have Rotarians wearing matching shirts one of the days, so be watching for the emails.

Bill Wright D5010 Visioning Chair

Our district is fortunate to have Rotarians who volunteer to be on this committee and facilitate visioning with clubs in our district. If you are in a club and wanting to have visioning take place, please reach out to Bill so he can schedule this with you.

PDG Gayle Knepper District 5010 Leadership Lab Coming Soon

District 5010’s Leadership Lab is an advanced learning hands-on leadership experience. It is designed for members interested in expanding their knowledge about Rotary, seeking a venue to refine leadership skills or find new leadership strategies to apply in all aspects of their lives. It is a more modern version of the prior Leadership Academy and utilizes the online RI Learning Center. The Lab is applicable to those who may wish to participate in future Rotary leadership positions in their clubs or in other avenues of Rotary service. It is ideal for PEs and other incoming officers and committee chairs, and other members who are looking for new methods and tools to effectively conduct Rotary work and lead others for higher-impact outcomes.

The first Leadership Lab will be launched in 2025. It is conducted at a participant’s own pace and includes optional group sessions. Nominations and self applications for3 participation will begin in January. Contact Alana Bergh alanabergh@gmail.com or Gayle Knepper 5010Rotary@gmail.com

PDG Gayle Knepper Manual of Procedure Review Committee

The District 5010 Manual of Procedure (MoP) establishes a committee to annually review the MoP and recommend modifications required to reflect changes in Rotary policy and club and district needs. The purpose is to create greater effectiveness in district operations and strengthen support provided to clubs. Recommended modifications are voted upon by clubs at the annual business meeting at the district conference. From time to time, a more thorough review and revision of the MoP is required for overall continuity of the document, especially as annual changes are usually limited to one section. It also ensures the MoP reflects current operating philosophy of the district. District 5010 is at that phase now and is launching the process.

This work will be active during the upcoming months and presented for approval at the 2025 business meeting. District leaders and clubs are an essential part of this process and will be soon asked for input and comments during the different phases of the review and update. We encourage you and your club to share your ideas now or at any time during the process. Contact Gayle Knepper 5010Rotary@gmail.com

PDG Gayle Knepper USA Russia Intercountry Committee

Rotary Intercountry Committees (ICCs) actively promote relationships between two or more countries to increase fellowship and cultural understanding, create stronger relationships, and promote peace. By establishing stronger intercountry networks, they also help to prevent and resolve conflict across borders. There are about 400 ICCs around the world.

District 5010 was a founder of the USA Russia Intercounty Committee in 2007. The purpose was to provid support of Rotary clubs and members in Russia and create deeper relationships, efforts to which District 5010 dedicated many years of development and thousands of Rotarian hours and dollars. District 5010 is still recognized by the Rotary world as a key leader in the creation of Russian Rotary. As a district member of the USA Russia ICC, all 5010 Rotarians are invited to participate in its activities, including a monthly zoom meeting with members from across the USA, Russia and other parts of the world Contact Gayle Knepper 5010Rotary@gmail.com
